Summer camp is filled with learning about and participating in life on a farm, creating new friendships, both furry and human alike, and cultivating a love for the outdoors and organic living.
We typically start each day with morning farm chores, feeding the animals and grooming the horses. We saddle up early so that we can ride before the summer heat fills the air. For beginner riders, they will spend time in small groups learning how to ride in the front riding ring; while more experienced riders will venture to the trails for up to 30 minutes of trail riding each day. Back again this year is Barn Rat Wannabes ages 4-6! These Barn Rats will enjoy Farm Camp at a different pace with age appropriate riding, educational experiences and crafts. Overall, My Farm Camps is for ages 4-16. Counselor in Training is for rising 9th graders. CIT’s will work 3 weeks of camp along side of a Sr. Counselor.
Afternoon lunches are either on the trail, under a tree, or inside the barn next to the fans and fellow cowgirls and cowboys. Afternoon creeking is a favorite and water fights typically cool things off so be prepared for wet and dirty farmhands at pick up! Packing a towel and crocks is a good idea!
Each week my Farrier and my Vet come to the farm for horse and hoof care and kids will create farm associated crafts. Gardening and farm to table treats are a must while working and living on a farm and we fully intend on eating what we create! Often, we have leftovers for parents and siblings to try at afternoon pick up.
NOTE: we enjoy offering weekly themes but know, they all include horseback riding.
